My Background

"Proven Experience. Conservative Values. Trusted Leadership."

A lifelong resident of Western Wisconsin, Chris moved to Monroe County in December 1997 when he was selected as one of two new hires at the Tomah Police Department out of more than 100 candidates.  Chris quickly realized that he identified more with the rural values of Monroe County than his childhood home of La Crosse.

Within his first several years of work Chris became a K-9 handler, serving with a dog he raised from a puppy, and shortly after was promoted to sergeant.  Chris also was drawn toward teaching and by 2000 was an instructor in Firearms and Defensive Tactics, which he continues to teach today.

Chris worked 18 years as a night shift sergeant while also teaching and raising a family.

Chris has served as member, team leader and now commander of the Monroe County Combined Tactical Unit, which is a multi-jurisdictional SWAT team serving Monroe County.  Chris reports to a governing board consisting of the Sheriff, Sparta Police Chief and Tomah Police Chief, and through those agency heads, or their incident commanders, has been responsible for collaborating to successfully resolve the most high-risk incidents in the County.

Chris provides guidance on responding to emergencies to government and private organizations with a specialty in response to active shooter events and was part of a team who developed the Emergency Action Plan for Queen of the Apostles School in Tomah.

In 2019, Chris transitioned to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office as the Captain of Patrol.  This was a great opportunity to broaden his already vast law enforcement experience.  While serving with the Sheriff’s Office, Chris learned the vast differences between municipal police departments and the Constitutional Office of the Sheriff including the direct connection to the people the Sheriff’s Office serves and the other divisions including Jail, Courts and Emergency Management.

With less than one year at the new job the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and Chris had the opportunity to serve and learn even more about the County’s response to this event, including managing limited resources and safeguarding citizens’ rights.

In October of 2020 Chris was tapped to take on additional duties, which led to an appointment to Interim Chief Deputy in September 2021 and permanent promotion to Chief Deputy in February 2022, a role that he continues to serve in today.

Chris is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment and has coordinated many concealed carry license classes for the community with over 1000 graduates while also representing the Sheriff’s Office at a 2nd Amendment forum.

Chris lives in Tomah with his wife of 25 years, Liz, and two daughters, Allison a student at UW-La Crosse and Samantha a student at Tomah High School.
